Shipyards
Registered since 2006
Feadship is founded by two families, De Vries and Royal Van Lent, and has two shipyards in Aalsmeer and Kaag and one design and engineering center, De Voogt Naval Architects. In the modern yachting world, the Feadship name is synonymous with perfection. Earning such a reputation was by no means all plain sailing...
Looking back, it was a pivotal moment in the history of yacht building. Yet those involved in the launch of Feadship in 1949 also remember it as a difficult time. The war had left more than just the market for this previously successful industry in ruins. Despite four years of peace, there remained little money or inclination in Europe for ordering pleasure yachts. Encouraged by the Dutch government's export incentives, Royal Van Lent Shipyard, De Vries Scheepsbouw and four other yards decided to set out theirstall for the thriving American market.
The man behind this move, naval architect Henri de Voogt, was a visionary. Even the name Feadship - the First Export Association of Dutch Shipbuilders - was a stroke of genius. It made the fledgling group sound like it was Dutch shipbuilding, an important distinction in a market where image was crucial.
