COMMENTS:   With just two owners since she was launched in May 2010, SAVING GRACE has been lovingly maintained through her short life and based close to the Northshore factory in Chichester. Her annual maintenance has always been carried out by locally-based specialists experienced with Southerly yachts and she is wintered ashore for at least 2 months of each year.   Purchased by the present owners in 2012 as a replacement to their previous Southerly which they had owned from new, she was offered for sale as her original owner was upgrading to a new larger Southerly yacht. Used sparingly by the new owners for 4-5 weeks of each year for cruising around the S.Coast UK, English Channel and Northern France, SAVING GRACE has never been put away wet and this shows in her excellent presentation both above and below decks.   Boasting all the best features and options available for the Southerly 38, her highlighted include:-

  • Ivory topsides with GRP decks (chosen for low ongoing maintenance liabilities)
  • 2-cabin, 2-heads layout with full-width owner’s cabin aft
  • Cherry interior joinery
  • Full package of Oceanair Skyscreens and concertina blinds
  • Bowthruster
  • Stainless steel removable bowsprit
  • North Sails with furling G1 reacher and self-tacking jib
  • Fully-battened mainsail with roller battencars, single-line reefing system, stackpack and lazyjacks
  • Electric halyard winch
  • Full Raymarine instrumentation package including twin radar chart plotters and AIS transponder
  • Extensive canvas work including cockpit enclosure and sun awning
  • Tender and outboard
  • Extensive safety equipment inventory including liferaft
  • Eberspacher diesel heating system
OWNER’S COMMENTS:   We originally had a Southerly 32 built which we thoroughly enjoyed but wanted more space, so took the opportunity to buy Saving Grace in December 2012 when the original owner was ordering a new build Southerly 42.   We have thoroughly enjoyed owning and sailing her, on the south coast, Channel Islands and France. She is a very capable seaworthy boat which is very easy to sail, offering a high level of comfort and the added flexibility of having two en-suite heads. Very useful if we have family/friends sailing with us.   The versatility offered by the lifting keel have been a boon: being able to access anchorages and creeks that are not always available to fixed keel alternatives, and is particularly useful for getting in or out of marinas with restricted tidal access. We keep her in Chichester marina which is accessed via a channel with tide restrictions and a lock. The lifting keel means that we have a much larger time window compared to fixed keel boats. We have often attracted attention when such a large boat is seen negotiating the access channel in 1.5 metres of water - or even less!   It has been a hard decision to put SAVING GRACE on the market but advancing years (I am in my seventy fourth year) and increasing health issues -not to mention that we have a very long drive to get to the boat mean that we have been using her less and less. It will be wrench to see her go.   MANUFACTURER’S COMMENTS:   The Southerly 38 boasts an impressive sail plan; the tall fractional rig, combines a large mainsail and a self-Soutacking furling jib for powerful windward performance. For off wind sailing an optional gennaker can be flown from a removable bowsprit.   The spacious cockpit offers comfortable seating around both helm stations with room for full instrumentation. The mainsheet track is located on the pilot house coachroof with control lines fed back to both helmsman’s stations, allowing the yacht to be easily mana
