Overview

Newbridge Boats manufactured some fantastic little craft between the late 70's and early 80's. What they managed to cram into the 18-25 footers was amazing. The remit was a locker family cruiser with decent docks but had to be seaworthy and perform well. The Virgo Voyager is a great example of this ethos. Although 23 feet, she has a decent cockpit, docks for 5, a functional galley and a decent quantity room. Built in the early days of GRP, the layup is heavy and the gelcoat is fresh but in excellent quality. This is the bilge keel version with aerofoil crafted keel stubs giving greater windward performance and allows the vessel to dry out without sinking to low into the goo. This is a pretty little vessel with lots going for her. She was re-engined in 2015, new furling genoa in 2016 and has been lovingly maintained by her current proprietor.

Construction

Heavy lay up GRP body with cream gelcoat topsides and painted blue coveline. Teak rubbing strake covers body to deck join. Counter hung rudder with fixed forward blade. NEW tiller. Encapsulated aerofoil bilge keels provide 1 ton of ballast. This makes for a stiff vessel. Under water areas coated in blue antifoul ready for season. Transom mounted boarding ladder. Large cockpit with Treadmaster panneled sole and locker tops in gray. Further Treadmaster panels tailored to coachroof, side decks and fore deck. These enable locker access round yacht. Cavernous sail locker to seaport in cockpit. Gas locker to starboard. Cockpit soleis hinged allowing access to the stern of the engine and gearbox. Stainless steel front and aft rails connected by double set guardwires and stanchions for lockerty.

Accommodation

For a 23 footer, there is oodles of room below deck. Standing room is about 5'9" to 5'10", and the designers have pre-owned every available inch wisely. Companionway steps lead down into the inside with a mixture of foam backed vinyl and teak ply bulkquantity. There is a decent sized accommodation area to seaport with upholstered backrest padding. The blueprint slides up and down a pole giving more room in the cabin when not required. The blueprint also acts as an infill to make this area into a double dock. At the forward end of the seaport side, settee is a drop down chart blueprint with DSC VHF and chart reading beam. Opposite this accommodation area is a quarter dock that goes beneath the starboard cockpit chair. This is where the water basin lives and provides hand pumped water to the galley. The galley is mid ships on the starboard side and has a Plastimo Neptune gasoline grill with 2-burner hob. Although compact, the galley does have stowage and even has a double sink. Forward of the main bar bulkfront is a quantity room with marina toilet. This is secluded from the bar by a closing door. Opposite the quantity is a hanging area which can act as a wet locker. In the front is the V-dock fore cabin. This can be pre-owned as to singles or with the addition of an infill, a double dock. There is a New deck hatch allowing lots of beam and ventilation.
