Amarapura was designed by naval engineer Fred Parker and built in Ipswich, UK in 1956 as a one-off by one of the best shipwrights of the time, Ernest Nunn, using the best materials and with the utmost care. The deck, hull and superstructures are made from the finest Burmese Golden Teak, bronze and copper hardware. The boat  was built under the supervision of Lloyds and registered with Lloyds Higher Class and special recognition for the materials used. The designes are kept at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, the temple of yachting history and culture.  From autumn 2021 Amarapura is based at the Suffolk Yacht Club  Yacht Harbour Marina of Levington, Ipswitch, UK.  Currently undergoing maintenance with paint and varnish from the bilges to the bulkheads to the external superstructures, as every year since 1974! An unique and unrepeatable boat, a witch of the ocean that sails comfortably, particularly upwind, safe and fast in any weather. Seeking new navigator educated  and passionate at very attractive price   HISTORY: Richard Courage, king of beer in Britain, dynamic heir to the family business founded in 1787, commissioned the famous naval designer Fred Parker in 1954 to design a medium size boat  to be built by the best shipwrights and with the best materials and able to sail around the world even at the high latitudes of the Nothern and Southern Oceans. It was christened Barleycorn (!!) infact his kingdom was the fifth largest beer group in Britain, controlling over 6,000 pubs ! Barleycorn was built as an One Off at Waldringfield on the River Debham near Ipswich in 18 months by the Nunn Brothers who were then considered by Fred Parker  to be superior shipwrights to Lallows in Cowes and C&N in Gosport, and so the small yard was chosen by Courage. Enest Nunn boatyard was a phenomenally well regarded builder of racing boats, especially International Fourteens, International Canoes and Dragons. She was launched in 1956. In the same year and in 1957 the boat took part in RORC offshore races and came second in the Harwick-Hook (Holland). In 1974 the boat passed into the hands of her current owner, a Neapolitan gentleman who was a lawyer in England and renamed her Amarapura. The name is very evocative as Amarapura was the "sacred and immortal city" of Burma in honour of the best teak of Burma out of which this fine yacht was built.  The owner is an experienced sailor, he has crossed the Atlantic, the Pacific and Cape Horn in his life . He donated the plans and complete design to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich for their collection of  the designes of F.R. Parker. She sailed with Amarapura as far as the Mediterranean where the yacht  sailed for many years. Maintained by the prestigious Nino Aprea shipyard in Naples, the boat then sailed back beyond Gibraltar and is now based in England. The owner, although not a young man, cruised to northern Norway in 2020. Since autumn 2021 Amarapura has been based at the Suffolk Yacht Club  Yacht Harbour Marina of Levington, Ipswitch IP100LN UK.  CONSTRUCTION   Construction material :   Hull planking: Golden Burma Teak      Deck: Golden Burma Teak    Deckhouse and cockpit: Golden Burma Teak    Topsides : Golden Burma Teak    Frames: Steam-bent oak.   Fastening: Copper.   Lead ballast 3.5 tonnes.   Ballast bolts: Marine bronze.   Wheelhouse.
