OYSTER 56 KUDU The 56 was the ﬁrst Oyster design to be drawn for us by Rob Humphreys, beginning a partnership that continues to this day. The 56 is perhaps the quintessential Oyster design and was the undisputed class leader at this size for more than a decade. Rob certainly got it right ﬁrst time – the 56 is still our best- selling Oyster model, with seventy-ﬁve launched between 1998 and 2010. The key to her success is her size; large enough for rapid ocean cruising and to accommodate her crew in comfort and style when living aboard, but also compact enough to be handled by a couple without crew. The 56 retained earlier successful Oyster design features; the single skin hull construction, with stiffness provided by massive ribs and stringers, the keel-stepped mast, and the full-length rudder skeg protecting the entire rudder. The 56 was also the ﬁrst yacht to gain from an ergonomically designed cockpit, Oyster worked with Loughborough University to design a space which makes relaxing and entertaining a true pleasure, whilst maintaining all the essential qualities you would expect of a serious ocean-going yacht.

The 56 is a proven performer, with many ocean crossings and circumnavigations to her credit. She has had class wins in the ARC and has also won Cruising Class 1 at Antigua Sailing Week, beating a number of more serious racing yachts. She is a superb sea boat and remains very well regarded by all her fortunate owners. Kudu is the very ﬁrst of the iconic 56s to be launched. She is equipped with the classic Oyster shorthanded bluewater rig; in-mast furling mainsail and furling genoa and staysail all furled by hydraulics at the touch of a button. Electric primary secondary and mainsheet winches further enhance her easy handling under sail. Down below she sleeps seven in four cabins, her hand ﬁnished joinery is in crown cut American light oak, which gives a bright and open feel, while her cabin soles are teak and oak.

Her current owner bought her through Oyster Brokerage in 2018 and has engaged in a comprehensive programme of continuous maintenance and upgrades. A four-year maintenance log is available on request.
