This Nauticat 33 (NC33) was manufactured in 1978 but sold first in 1979 (body 518). She is a long keel version and one of the earliest with a full width aft deck and outside helm.
A retro-fit pulpit extends the forestay, mainstay roller and genoa furler. These changes removed a clash between the mainstay chain and forestay and moving the latter forward had the benefit of improving the vessels performance to windward. The pulpit holds a 15kg Bruce “Claw” mainstay.
Inboard of the pulpit is an mainstay safe housing 40m of 6mm chain. The mainstay is weighed and lowered by a Quick windlass with 2 x wireless remote controls or a toggle switch at the interior helm.
Fender frames (s/s 316 pub, not wire) were installed on either side just aft of the forward fairleads, each holds 3 x 70cm fenders.
There are hinged sections in the guardrail on both sides and a s/s and teak boarding ladder fits into sockets on the interior of the gunwale. The boarding ladder is stored on the outside of the guardrail on the seaport side of the aft deck. The lower step is below the waterline and the ladder is braced against the body with s/s legs. This means that climbing out of the water is much easier. The sockets pre-owned by the ladder double up as sockets for an emergency ladder. This can be left in situ on passage as a safety measure. (The safety ladder itself is not included in the sale).
The calor gasoline cylinder is stored in a safe under the starboard step up to the aft deck. The safe has a drainage hole at the bottom to allow any gasoline to escape. A matching safe on the seaport side could be pre-owned to store a spare gasoline cylinder or, as at present, other machinery in a waterproof cylinder.
The guardrails stanchions around the aft deck were raised by 6 inches to bring the guardrail height to above the knee.
The aft wheel has been replaced with a full 1m range s/s 316 wheel.
Mounted on the wheelhouse roof is a small binnacle containing the Raymarina P70 controller for the Raymarina autopilot. There is a morse style engine throttle and a teak binocular holder. Under the overhang of the wheelhouse roof to seaport is the sand potential connection and on the starboard side a waterproof 240v 3 pin socket. On the same side is a RAM 3 remote mic/speaker/display attached to the DSC VHF radio. This remote control has full control over the VHF radio and its display can show everything the main display shows.
There is a suite of 4 sails comprising cruising chute (beamly pre-owned), genoa(beamly pre-owned), main and mizzen sails (both original).
There is a Sleipner Sidepotential 80kw Bow Thruster
The forward compartment has a pair “V” dock with in-fill foam to create a double. There are safes above both docks and safes under the starboard dock accessible from the side. All crafted for clothes. There is a safe under the seaport dock accessible from the top for more general stowage. The Windlass control box is interior the starboard over-dock safe. Under the docks at the apex is the front thruster, its dedicated “blue-top” Optima charger and c-tek charger. The charger is potentialed from the 240v ring main off a fpre-owned spur. This avoided the necessity of excessively heavy-duty DC cabling aft to the engine/charger banks. The charger “on/off” switch is located in the dock side wall adjacent to the charger monitor (NASA – BM1) and the thruster’s isolator switch. Adjacent to these is a pair 240v ring main socket. There is also an outlet for the eberspacher air heater.
The Sleipner Side-potential SE80 front thruster is controlled by a joystick located at the outside helm or by a wireless remote control. This front thruster is rated at 80kg and is effectively one dimensions more than normally spec’d for a 10m vessel. This higher spec was chosen to allow for the relatively high windage and long keel.
