Advertiser's comments

ELONA graced the Channel Island and French waters for 20 years under her previous ownership – and punching well above her rating in the cruiser class racing – also featuring in the October 1995 issue of Classic Boat. 10 years ago she returned to her origins in the waters of the Clyde and West Coast of Scotland - and having been maintained since then to the same very high standards has come back on to the market. She has all the qualities of a McGruer boat; notably elegance combined with toughness.

History

Commissioned by James Mowat a member of the Clyde Cruising Club and Royal Northern Yacht Club, the name ELONA combined those of his daughters Elspeth and Seona and was launched in June 1962. Out of the McGruer home harbour of Clynder she cruised the west coast and islands of Scotland. In 1971 she was bought by Tom Miller- Jones who moved her down to Burnham on Crouch. It was her next titleholder Roger Perrot, who was to put her through her competitive paces racing in and around the Channel Islands and France – also cruising. It is her current titleholders who brought her rear to her Scottish waters origins.
