Essex is a county located in the East End of London which forms part of the eastern region of England. Its capital is Chelmsford. It is bordered by Greater London and Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. Historically it was the land of the East Saxons, and today represents an important gateway to the European continent thanks to the airports of Stansted and Southend and its two main ports: the port of Tilbury, one of the three largest ports in the country, and that of Harwich, which links the county with the Netherlands.

Essex is one of the driest regions of England, with warm summers and cold winters. The coast is famous for its sandy beaches and resorts. Industry is limited to the southern part of the region, while the rest of the territory is dedicated to agriculture.
